Aliya's First Laugh....

So this year has been hard, and great and long!!! I have been a major slacker when it comes to this blog and so here I am trying to start again....I thought maybe I would just start with this very cute and wonderful clip of our newest edition to the family. She laughed for the first time today and those are the moments that just keep you livin'!
P.S. You will have to mute the music player at the bottom of this page so you can hear her cute little giggles!!!

T-ball and Machine Pitch!

Gage and Isaac are actively loving their baseball experience this year!!! They both have great coaches (which makes all the difference!) and have learned and progressed so much this year. This is Gage's first year in t-ball and he doesn't even use the t! He has hit it every time that his coach pitches it to him:) Isaac is in his first season of machine pitch and is loving it. He does really well and it quite pleased with his own progress this year. Grandma Whitesides has been very active and supportive this year in taking the boys to their games and practices:) Bless her for all that she is doing to help us out and Grandpa too for that fact....The boys get so excited when it is her turn to take them to their games. The one who gets to go with her usually gives the other one a smirk and then off they go! I think Grandma has really enjoyed the time with the boys as well:) Gage is in the first two pictures...He is playing for the Yankees this year and Isaac is in the second two pictures and he is playing for the Indians this year. Both boys got the number 2 on their jerseys and they thought it was pretty cool they got the same number but for different teams:)

Isaac's Car Day!

So, in conclusion of Isaac's first grade year, the first graders have been having many fun adventures for the last month. They attended the Hamblin Farm where they learned about all kinds of farm animals and tasted fresh cow's milk!!! (Isaac came home with is first bad sunburn of the year but other than that he loved it.) They went to the Hogle Zoo where they saw the new "Madagascar Exhibit" and rode the train of course....and lastly, in their adventures they held the "Annual Car Day" at school. Isaac worked really hard with Dad in constructing his very own car out of a cardboard box! He even helped do the cutting and painting of all the necessary items. He of course wanted his car to be purple ( his favorite color). He is so proud of that card board car that he made with his Dad:) He took it to school and had a blast! They wore their cars and visited different stations where they played games, earned treats and learned about car safety. After a very hot day out in the sun, the Fire Department came with their water truck and the kids took off their cars and went out into the field to be rained upon, and cooled off of course, by the Firemen:) This I think was his favorite part of the day. Isaac came home beaming and showed us an award he won! He won the award for best workmanship on his car. He is so proud and excited. Tomorrow they will have their field day in which he is very excited about as well...and then, Friday, he will have his last day of first grade! I can't believe that our first ever first grade year is at its close. Bittersweet I would say! I sure enjoyed being so much a part of this year with him as i spent many hours in the classroom with him and his schoolmates. His teacher has been the best thing ever and I am so grateful to her and her wonderful teaching abilities. Isaac sure has grown a lot this year and teachers are such an important part of that:) SO here is to Isaac and his first grade year:)

This is how Bridger watches TV!

So we were all at home on Monday, just enjoying time together and the boys were watching a show. Bridger had been playing with toys and as usual, was all over the house. It was pretty quiet after awhile and we look over and there is Bridger, with his feet through the rails, completely entranced in the show his brothers were watching. He could have sat on the couch, or even on the same level of the house that the show was being played...but nope! Bridger likes to do things his way! He is so darn cute and we just love having him around.....

Aren't boys sweet? Especially to their mothers....

So I was just sitting here, trying to take it easy, and the boys ran in from riding their bikes with these beautiful pear tree blossoms!!! One of those small moments that makes you so happy to be a mother to such awesome children...so our world is going to change in the fall ( or late summer) with the addition of another tiny sweet spirit to our home. It is going to be a new experience for us, as it has always been with the addition of a child. This time around however, we will get to enjoy pink and baby dolls and things that are just foreign to our home. That's right, today(with a 90%) we learned that the baby inside my tummy is going to be a little girl!!!  It is very exciting and a bit overwhelming....Isaac has been praying for three years straight, not missing one night, for a baby sister. The witness of his faith was given today, and will be when she is born , to this sweet little boy with so much faith! Charles  now realizes that he has much to worry about and look forward to. I am just still in shock and the boys of course are thrilled! Bridger screamed"yeah!!!", Gage asked " but when is she going to come out?" and Isaac smiled with tears in his eyes and asked "really? they really saw girl parts? " and then the exhilaration followed... I am so grateful for all of my blessings and pray that the Lord will be with us as we invite this precious spirit into our home. And on a side note: I know that I have one niece in particular who is going to be ecstatic about it all! That's right Nya....you finally get a girl cousin:)

Easter....

Easter was great! The boys thoroughly enjoyed hunting the eggs the bunny had left behind and eating all that candy until they were sick. Easter dinner was great with the family(Mills side) and all thanks to Ann and her willingness to have everyone at her house for the meal!!! I know i wasn't up for it so many thanks to her. Most of the family had left when the boys discovered the beauty of a hot tub....the new one that sits in Ann's backyard. After cute little pouty faces and big eyes, they were allowed a trial in the tub!!! They loved every minute and we had to pull Bridger out kicking and screaming when it was time to go....Gage for that matter as well. Bridger found a new best friend in his cousin McKenna!!! He just absolutely adores her and she seemed to have a lot of fun with him as well. Happy Easter to all!

Neighborhood Annual Easter Egg Grab!

Now I don't call it a hunt because there is no hunting! The eggs are all laid out and age groups are assigned, a whistle is blown and the kids start a grabbin'....they love it though. Every year they look forward to the traditions that our Ward and neighborhood have. What ever happened to the good ol' fashioned egg hunts anyway? I guess we will have to reinstitute them in each of our own homes to keep it alive!!! The wind was blowin and it was so cold. I was here in a hot shower trying to rid myself of a headache that so frequently plagues me this pregnancy. Dad and the boys had a good time though but came home with very red noses and frozen little fingers...

A Great Night with the Kids!!!

On Wednesday night we took the boys to the Tree House in Ogden for the "Mad Hatter's Tea Party"! We indeed got to go to wonderland and share in the story of Alice and all her crazy friends. The boys met the Queen of Hearts, the Rabbit, the Mad Hatter and the Hare, and of course the musical caterpillar. They began the evening with the Queen of Hearts trying their hands at her favorite rendition of croquet, Flamingoes and Hedgehogs! Of course the rules were that she had to win but it was fun none the less. The queen asked the children if they liked to play games and what games did they play. Children began naming Monopoly, hide 'n' seek, memory, etc! Then the queen asked Gage and he excitedly told her he loves to play the wii!!! The queen laughed and said she had a Wii too and that it was very fun. Leave it up to one of my sons and the Wii is ever present on their minds!!! The queen was getting a little worried by the time we were going to move to the Mad Hatter's because Isaac was getting very good at croquet and she didn't want to take off his head! (remember only the queen can win) He was proud though. Then we were off to make hats for the Mad Hatter's tea party. As we were making our hats the rabbit was playing hide and seek with the kids and finally Alice spotted him and she took off running after the rabbit and the boys though that was so hilarious. I wish i could have recorded their hysterical laughter!!! Then it was on to the tea party where the boys were instructed in proper tea party etiquette by the Mad Hatter and the Hare. And finally we ended in the magical forest with the caterpillar and his dum dums!!! They sang fun songs with nursery rhymes and the kids got an instrument to play along. The boys really enjoyed themselves and can't wait for their next trip to wonderland. It was a really fun night and we got to drive home in dumping snow and wind!!! At least the boys thought that was fun too...

Kids say the cutest things!

So last night we were eating dinner and Gage took a huge drink of water. He turned at me and with a huge smile said, " Mom, don't you love my water beard?" I saw water on the fine little hairs above his upper lip and it finally clicked...you know the ol' milk mustache!!! Except for his was a water beard. He makes me laugh!

Snow! Blah...

So it used to be that I really enjoyed snow days and it is not to say that I don't but the older my children are getting, the less they are enjoyable. So Isaac is out of school today due to Quality Teaching Day, and he is bored out of his mind. You see this could have been an awesome day if it had been warm and sunny! He could play outside all day with his brother and his friends and i wouldn't have to sit in the slump of "no more wii, no more t.v.!!!"What else can you do when it is 3o degrees outside and raining/snowing all day? The other half of the problem is that I have absolutely no energy and not a creative thought is passing through my head today!!! What do you do? Just get through this "blah" of a day and hope that someday soon we will see the sun and feel its warmth again! You know in about 3 months from now I will have the complaint of too much sun and heat...and so life goes!

Bridger is as big as the rest of em'!

Isaac has started into his new love of sparring at karate class!!! They are required to wear special protective gear to ensure their safety as they are learning the new techniques. Isaac had his first fight just yesterday and he actually scored a point!!! That is really great especially being his first time...his competitor scored 2 points. ( the match is best of three) I was so proud of him!  He really seemed to enjoy himself and can't wait for next weeks sparring class. His gear has been laying around the house for the last week or so and Bridger has also discovered a love for sparring with his Dad ( somehow they always involve me as well!). He puts the huge helmet and hand guards on and just goes to town....he really lights up and it has been so much fun to watch. I know that it has been far too long since the last post but we are back on the wagon and keep watching for updates!!! We love all of our family and are so grateful for all of our blessings...including all the small moments that we share here at home with our beautiful children. (remember to turn the sound down on the music player so you can hear the movie with Bridger!)

100's DAY at Buffalo Point Elementary!

So, Isaac celebrated his 100th day of school on Wednesday of this last week! His teacher challenged them to dress up like they think they would look at 100 years of age. We had fun dousing his hair with corn starch and tracing light wrinkles with my eyeliner. Dad was able to find his old glasses and removed the lenses so he would have glasses to wear. They had to be much to big for his face of course...he wore elastic pants with a button up vest over a t-shirt, covered by the flannel button down shirt. He was excited but once the eyeliner had been applied he lost all of his excitement! He went upstairs and came back down and said" I really don' t like the wrinkles Mom." I made him keep them and he was alright after he found that many of his friends looked as ridiculous as he did. His teacher said that they all had a lot of fun. I can't believe that my boy has been in school for that long already. This year I will have two in school and it is a bit overwhelming for me! They just grow up way too fast....This is why I cherish these moments and have to share them with those I love.

Gage belt tested today with his Sensei. He did  a great job and even provided a little entertainment!!! He moved from his yellow belt to his orange belt today and it was so much fun.   My favorite part of the whole thing was when Gage was finished and ready to leave. He was wearing his new orange belt around his waist and his yellow belt was tied and placed upon his head....for some reason the knot in the yellow belt made him look like a turkey! Anyway, his Sensei was saying goodbye to another student and he ran up to him and said " Sensei Jeff.....I know that Crane Kick!!!!" He then proceeded to give his rendition of the crane kick as he knows it. You see, we watched the Karate Kid as a family the other night and the very last fight was won with the Crane Kick and he has been obsessed with it ever since. His Sensei was so entertained and happy it made us all laugh!!! Way to go, Gage.....we are proud of you:)
You may need to turn the music off at the bottom of the blog so you can hear the interaction between Gage and his Sensei!

Draper Temple Open House

Saturday we had a rare and awesome opportunity of attending the open house for the Draper, Utah LDS Temple!!! Growing up outside of Utah, and how it is for the majority of the members of the church, I never had the opportunity to attend a temple open house. Being here in this state where there are a few temples being built every decade or so is a unique blessing and opportunity. When the Draper Temple was announced I wanted nothing more than to be able to take our boys to the open house and let them see with their own eyes and feel with their hearts the amazing blessings of what the temples bring. We got tickets on the first day that reservations were being made and have been teaching and discussing temples and the blessings of temples in preparation for taking the boys to the open house. It was a neat thing to be able to reinforce the Lord's teachings and the importance of temples. Isaac is definitely at an age that he will remember quite a bit of that day. He still talks about how he felt the spirit while he was there and it made him feel good. Gage will remember a bit, I suppose. Bridger is still very young but we still took him and we can talk about the day that we went and how we felt and who knows? Maybe in another 5-10 years there will be another temple built here and we will be able to take them all again.  We had a wonderful time as a family and with Grandma and Grandpa Whitesides. All Bridger needed was the constant distraction of gum that kept appearing out of Grandma's purse and he was perfectly happy and content!!! He must be my child. I have no idea how much gum he swallowed but I figure it all comes out in the end anyway.....lol:)

Gage's Best Friend...

So Gage is my child who is just absolutely, positively a charmer! I mean really, watch out world because here he comes and he is the sweetest boy in the world. Never a day goes by that he doesn't tell me how beautiful I am or how much he loves me. The thing about it is he always knows when I need it the most!!! He is very caring and sensitive and I absolutely adore him. His best friend lives next door and her name is Tessa. Tessa's birthday was last week and she turned four...they are about 10 mos apart in age....All day he kept reminding me that it was her birthday and he needed to make her a card. Well, the day past in such a hurry that he didn;t have time to make her a card. I had to go and pick up diapers at the store before bed time and he really wanted to go with me. We were in Walmart and just about finished up when he spotted the fresh flowers. He ran over to them and with such pure and sweet joy said " MOM! This  is what I need to get Tessa for her Birthday!!! We need to get her the pink ones and I think that she will love them....."
So, we got Tessa flowers and a small package of tiny cupcakes. It was family home evening and we had just made home-made ice cream. When we got home we packaged up enough ice cream for Tessa and her family and then Gage took her the flowers. She was excited and it made him feel good about giving to someone else. Tessa has three older sisters and they were floored when they saw the flowers....it was cute!!! So here is to my thoughtful, charming and sweet boy Gage!

Isaac's First Lost Tooth...actually, the first four!

Here is poor little Isaac at the dentists office. He is preparing to have his first loose tooth pulled! The adult tooth was growing in behind the baby tooth and so the baby tooth was very painful and wasn't getting pushed out. To mom's surprise however, his first two baby teeth on the bottom were both loose and there was barely any room for one adult tooth to make its way through if the dentist pulled the two teeth that were loose...so, the dentist pulled all four of the baby teeth on the bottom to make room for the two adult teeth that were ready to take up their residence. Isaac got to watch Finding Nemo on the special movie glasses and got a little silly with all the nitrous that they were giving him. It was a bit rough on the poor guy but he did really well and couldn't be more anxious to place not only one tooth under his pillow but all four teeth! I tell you what....I think that Tooth Fairy took pity on the poor child because he awoke to 8 whole dollars underneath his pillow!!! Hopefully for the Tooth Fairy, he won't lose any more any time too soon......lol:)

Cast is Off!!!

So Bridger had his cast removed two weeks ago today and it has been such a life changing event for him and for us!!! He is so much happier and with each passing day his leg is getting stronger...for quite a while he was walking with his foot pointed out to the extreme and he wouldn't put much weight on it but now it is almost as if it had never happened!!! Aren't kids amazing? Charles handed him the cast after it was taken off and Bridger just chucked it on the floor. Dad picked it up again and we convinced him to throw it in the garbage! He couldn't have been happier....he waved goodbye to the cast and was making every effort to leave the room as fast as he possibly could! Yeah, for Bridger and for Dad....his guilt has been lessened without the constant reminder of the cast.

The joys of bathing with a cast...

So, trying to keep Bridger clean while he has been in a cast has been an adventure! We were just sponge bathing him for like a week and a half after but really that can only last so long before you just have to find a way to get a good bath in....so we put his leg in bags and tape and saran wrap and tape some more. Then he is placed in the bathtub and the water ran until there is simply no hot water left at which point he screams because he doesn't want to get out yet. The other night we pulled him out and were cutting all of the plastic layers off with the scissors. We finished with the layers and put the scissors down. He started screaming and reached for the scissors and handed them to us and told us to cut it off and pointed to his cast! He thought we were going to take his cast off....bless his little heart...luckily he only has a few remaining days of his life in a cast. Wednesday is the big day for him and we are all ready to have a happy little Bridger back!

To My Big Brother...

Yeah, I know it is a day late but the thought has always been there!!! Happy Birthday, Jason....you have been the best big brother a girl could ever have. I know life hasn't always been easy but you inspire me with your determination to keep on living life the best you can. I think back fondly on times with you as we grew from children to adults. I remember you tying a rope to your skateboard and pulling me with your bike...me falling off every few minutes and you telling me to get up and lets do it again!!! I remember you always let me in your room in Kansas and would wrestle me to a pulp on that blue velvet bedspread...you were practicing, right? I remember snow forts, and dancing on your feet in the living room, drives in the Jeep just because you wanted to drive it and listen to your music with your massive speakers, going on dates with you, discovering the joy of fritos, velveeta and chili, eating cookie dough straight from the prepackaged roll, endless afternoons of you teaching me how to play basketball in the driveway, the protectiveness of a big brother from all the idiots out there and so many more!!! I have loved watching you as a Dad....you are amazing at what you do and you are so important. You are an amazing people person and I have loved watching the impact that you have made in others lives....Jason is one of the most giving, caring, fun-loving and hard working men that I know! So here's to you brother on your birthday...

A Cast For 3 Weeks...

Wednesday, Bridger had his appointment with our orthopedic surgeon. We of course had to wait a while to be seen and he wasn't very happy about that fact at all...he kept trying to get one of us to take him home! He is nobody's dummy, now is he? While we were waiting I was trying to distract him and I walked him over to the name placard where the doctor's names were posted. He immediately began pointing to all the letters and naming each one by name followed by their sounds. This is a normal occurrence for us at our house and didn't think anything of it until we turned around and a woman was just staring at us. She smiled and asked how old he was and I was able to tell her he just turned two a few months ago and she was in total shock that he knew all the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that each one made! It was a proud moment for a mommy.....after waiting we were taken back and they took new xrays to confirm the prior diagnosis and have a comparison for later. Brandon(he is a nurse practitioner and Dr.Bycks number one man in the office and O.R.)came in and said "well, his fibula looks just fine! It is not broken....the tibia however is broken!" So this adds to my fire about the insta care that we took Bridger to and the lack of care and competence that was at that clinic that day. The Tibia is the main support and largest bone below the knee and therefore will take a little longer to heal and explains why he has been hurting so much. How do you mistake which bone is broken? I mean really......uhhhhhhhh! okay there i vented:) I am just feeling blessed that we have a very competent orthopedic surgeon and his staff is competent as well. Here is a picture of Bridger getting his cast on.....Brandon gave him the choice of a blue cast or a red cast and held the package up for him to choose! He chose with such authority and decisiveness as he grabbed the blue package and said "RED ONE!!!" So while he may know his letters very well, I can see we need to work on colors!!! The bottom picture is how Bridger has spent the last week of his life! In the middle of the floor, surrounded by his toys and scooting on his bum to reach what he can't or what his brothers just won't get for him! He is training us all very well in how to get him just what he needs and I have the feeling that we will have to break some habits when he is all healed and back to his normal self...

good news...

Well, I am grateful for medication that can help Bridger get through this! I really thought that he would be feeling at least a little better by now but this is just a miserable deal for him. The good news is that radiology called yesterday and his foot xrays were normal and his ankle appeared to be normal as well....that means that he should be able to heal quickly and NO SURGERY!!!! We will take what we are given and run with it. My heart just breaks for him...he tries so hard to get around but even crawling hurts too much. Charles is so guilt ridden and has called more often than usual to check on him while he is at work. I feel bad for him and I try to convince him he doesn't need to, accidents happen, but if the roles were reversed I too would feel the same! Thanks to all for your concern and we will keep you posted....He has his appointment tomorrow with the Orthopedic Surgeon where they will get new xrays and cast his leg if the swelling is down enough.

A Broken Bone!!!

Well, knowing the fact that we have three boys and that the oldest is 6.5, we were bound for some sort of casting injury sooner or later...I just never thought it would occur from an accident that involved my husband or myself!!! I had always envisioned a broken arm from falling off a bike, or a broken leg from trying to be an acrobat or learning that they really can' t fly like Super Man!!! This break for us will be number two in our family.....the first was a tiny hairline fracture in Isaac's elbow from being shoved off a bunk bed by his brother....It healed very quickly and they never had to do anything for it outside of a little ice and some ibuprofen. Really, the next day he seemed all fine! I think the only lasting impact on him was that his desire to sleep on the top bunk disappeared completely.......The number two break made family history for the Mills this Sunday morning as we trudged through bitter temperatures to attend our nephews baby blessing. The blessing was very nice and all was going well until we left the church house to go and have a family breakfast at Charlie's sisters house. It was so icy and cold out from a storm that blew through on Friday night...Charlie got Bridger from the van and decided to carry him in as there were large ditches and gutters full of ice and snow and we didn't want to lose him in one of those! Just walking along (on inches of ice by the way!) and there was Charlie and then there was screaming and Bridger's head bouncing off of the concrete in the driveway as I watched helplessly in shock! As a mother bear would, I believe I had Bridger scooped up in my arms even before Charlie had finished falling all the way...his head hit so hard and the intense feeling of hurt that coursed through my body and that little(i shouldn;t say little but so goes the saying I suppose) feeling in my gut told me that something was very wrong!
Just to give a little history here....Bridger was born 10 wks early and as such he truly has been our toughest little guy yet! He is also tough because he is the youngest of three boys. Generally, Bridger could smash a finger in a door, or skin his knee, or hit his head on a table or sharp corner and cry for a second, then he will get mad because it interuppted was he was trying to accomplish and about 30-60 seconds after the event he will be playing or doing whatever it was that he was doing prior to the injury.
Okay, so on with the story....after about 10 minutes of his screaming ( i mean that literally) we decided to take him into instacare for fear of a head injury. He would cry and say "Done, Done, Done with hurt". We arrived there and were greeted by a nurse who said "oh, he is just fine...this happens all the time!" Well, I am glad that I don't live at her house because this has never happened at our house before....Then we are taken to a room where a doctor comes in and looks at his eyes, in his ears,  rubs his head a little and says " He is fine, just fine, He is just mad about falling still" Knowing my child, only the way that a mother could, I wanted to slap him in the face!!! ( By the way, Bridger remained crying and saying hurt, done! the entire time all of this occured) The doctor started to head out the door and turned around and said " Here, just have him walk back and forth between you and your husband and then you will see that he is just fine!" Bridger had not let me go since I scooped him from the ground after the fall and he wanted nothing to do with Daddy....he is nobody's dummy! So Charlie took him from me because then we knew he would walk to me because he wanted me and only me. So, he starts to put him on the floor and Bridger starts screaming and shaking like i have never seen before but his desire to get to me was so strong he began to step and totally buckled in tears! At that point, I really wanted to kick that doctor in the pants. He shook his head, told us to take off his pants like we were inconvieniencing him and as soon as the pants slid off his leg was swollen and red from the knee to the ankle. He ordered xrays and sure enough a fracture to his fibula had occurred. That is the smaller of the two bones that are in the leg below the knee and runs along the outside portion of your leg. By the time the first set of rays were done, Bridgers foot had doubled in size and turned purple. So, the doctor ordered another set of rays for his foot and his femur. He couldn't read the results and had to send them for a radiologist to examine and we won't hear until the morning....there were another series of events that I won't go into detail over but man, that doctor need to go on a vacation or find a new vocation!!! He didn't give Bridger anything for pain either!!!
So, Charlie feels like crap because of Daddy guilt (as you can imagine), Bridger hurts and doesn't understand why, and Mom gets to take care of it all!!! Happy New Year! My heart just breaks for that little guy though and how much he is hurting....that is the worst part. you want to be super mom and make it all disappear and sometimes you just feel so helpless....I guess that is where we learn to rely on our Heavenly Father though because he is the healer and can help all things!!!
We will keep you posted on our progress and we pray that Bridger does not have to endure surgery or pain that will last a long time....Happy New Year to all of You and I hope that for all of you your year has started off eventful and new but maybe not as eventful as ours!!!
